June 20, 2013 - I just wanted to say that I am sorry about Jonah’s passing, but also that I think that  you’re very brave to tell your story, and that I think the “acts of kindness” is such a great initiative.  It inspired me to do my own “act of kindness”.  In December, a former university classmate of mine passed away while waiting for a heart transplant.  Currently his friend is cycling across Canada to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.  I used the Canadian Tire money accumulated on my personal CT Mastercard to purchase him a $150.00 gift card to use for supplies and snacks.  I was inspired by you and Jonah to make this contribution to Cayse’s Journey in memory of Matt.  If you’re interested in checking out his mission, he has a website/blog at www.outliveyourself.ca.  I sent the gift card to his friend (Matt’s brother, actually) who will ensure that Cayse gets it when he passes through Toronto.  I hope you don’t mind but I told them that my contribution was inspired by Jonah, and I also sent them to the link to Jonah’s website, so they will likely include that in their blog.  I hope you are doing well, and please keep up the great work in keeping Jonah’s memory alive!  ~ Johnna Campbell

June 6, 2013 – Today I woke up to sunshine and the blessing to have my little buddy Ezra for the day. He surely makes my day so much better. We decided to go for a walk around the square and stopped to talk to our neighbour, Sandra. I had a question about a shrub I planted late summer in memory of our little angel, Jonah Wynn. Sandra has such a green thumb I knew she would have an answer so she walked over to look at the shrub as I was wanting to move it. Of course, Sandra got right into it as her gardening skills took over and moved the shrub and showed me some things to pull out. I also talked about a rock I wanted to put by the shrub with Jonah’s name on it. Sandra assured me she had a rock and of course she did and brought it over to put in the garden, it was perfect and she even lent me the colour pink to put Jonah’s name on it. I can’t wait for Jonah’s Mom to come and see it. This is truly an Act of Kindness. Thank you for doing this Sandra and giving me another blessing today, especially for Jonah’s Way, I know she is happy with her new look in the garden! – Ann Caldwell

May 31, 2013 - Today I was welcomed back to work with some very delicious Dairy Milk chocolate all the way from England.  A co-worker of mine went there on a special weekend getaway to watch, what I hear to be, a very important Football game.  He knows how much I love this treat and was very kind to stop and get it before coming back.  Thanks Dub, you rock!  ~ Mary-Ellen Molloy

May 27, 2013 – Today I received a beautiful scarf and card with the most amazing note.  It read: To the MacIsaac Mom’s, I thought that your random acts of kindness on Jonah Wynn’s birthday were amazing.  One of my former students, 10 year old Liam, is battling leukaemia.  His Mom had to give up her job, and is selling various hand-made items to bring in a bit of extra cash.  Over the past few months, I have bought several of her scarves.  Because of your generosity in honouring Jonah Wynn’s memory, I’d like you each to have a scarf and think of Liam when you wear them.  On Saturday, there was a community fundraiser, and $6,200.00 was raised for his family.  He wanted a “head-shaving party” and it was amazing to see so many of his little friends getting their heads shaved.  The world needs more people like this, and like your family.  Sincerely, Marilyn Webber  Thank you Ms. Webber for thinking of our family – I wear my scarf often and pray for Liam and his loving Mom. xo

May 13, 2013 – I am a friend of Starr’s and after hearing your story, I was so moved and touched by your incredible strength and unending love, that I knew I had to do something as an Act of Kindness.

I recently purchased some new furniture and was planning on selling a sofa set on Kijiji.  The set was in wonderful condition and the only reason I was selling it was because I had moved and the set was too big for my new place.  I was planning on asking around $300 dollars for it, and in turn, the money would go towards the cost of my new set.  As I was thinking about getting the ad ready, I remembered your story and decided that I would find someone who could really use it.  I had just read about a young lady who generously donates her time in helping to raise money for veterinarian bills for people who cannot afford to help their pets.  She has even used her own money from time to time.  She selflessly gives whenever she can.  I managed to get hold of her and ask if she knew someone who could use a great sofa set and, to my surprise, she said she could but she had no way of picking it up.  My boyfriend and I delivered it to her and helped her set it up last night.  She messaged my last night to tell me that she had been very stressed at hoping to buy a set, knowing that she didn’t have the money, and that the kindness had made her week!  It meant so much more to me to help someone out than to make a few extra dollars.

From one mother to another …..thank you for being such an inspiration.  I am now thinking of how I can do another kindness!

    Sincerely, Karla Gates

May 5, 2013 – A year ago yesterday our little Angle Jonah Wynn left us and is now safely wrapped in her Grandmother’s arms. In honour of Jonah Wynn, we as a family and friends, shared Acts of Kindness yesterday throughout Halifax. The morning started with donations of blood to Blood Services, and for myself and many others it was our first time giving blood. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. Thank you Jonah Wynn, I think you sent me the courage to perform this act of kindness. From there we met at Tracey and Brad’s (Jonah’s Parents) and we packed up items to be delivered to various places, such as The Food Bank, the IWK, Halifax Commons, where various children were given small toys and Mother’s were given roses. Other stops included Abbey’s Lane, Bide Awhile, and many more. After our visit to the site of Jonah’s resting place we gathered at Tracey and Brad’s for a barbecue and to share our stories of our encounters of the day. There were many people who shared hugs with us today and for that we were very grateful. It was a day of laughter, tears, and an inner peace to know that we did all this because it is “Jonah’s Way”. Looking forward to next year! The Acts of Kindness” are done throughout the year, all in Jonah’s Memory! – Ann Caldwell

May 4, 2013 - Dureka and Craig MacIsaac received a lovely family dinner as an act of kindness.  As parents of two small children, they appreciated the break from cooking.

May 4, 2013 - Jonah’s Grandparents, Frankie and Priscilla, honoured Jonah Wynn by covering the expenses of the headstone for Jonah.  They also sent roses to remember her on her special day.

May 4, 2012 - While walking along Bell Road with my mother today, we were approached by two lovely young men who presented us with glorious, luscious pink roses in memory of their cousin, Jonah Wynn. After they explained this random act of kindness, we were touched, and exchanged hugs in gratitude.

What they did not know was that my mother is newly arrived in Halifax. She has been here for one week, and is at a transition point in her life, having made a radical change and coming to join me in Halifax based on faith and trust and the desire to open to something new.

Because of this, she has been open and asking for indications that she is on the right path. A few small things have come her way, but today,  out of the blue, she was presented with a flower from a stranger. Not just any flower, her favourite flower, a rose. And not just any rose, her favourite rose in the world; bright, vivid pink.
Never in her life has anyone done anything so spontaneously welcoming and kind; it is indeed like a smile from Jonah Wynn, welcoming her to a new path.
As it happens, we were on our way to the Common Roots Urban Farm to seek out volunteer opportunities; finding a way to integrate and give back to this marvellous community, so different from the place she has left. When we go to the next Work Day, we will dedicate our labour to Jonah Wynn, and the work that we do will further progress on the beds that will provide food to the food bank and the community. Along the way to the garden, we had been discussing the possibility of my mother volunteering in the ICU ward with babies who need physical contact. Perhaps someone approves of this plan :)
Because we each received a rose, (and my mother wasn’t giving hers up!), I decided to share mine with someone else.
My apartment is currently undergoing renovations, and has been for months. The noise and disruption has been intense and lengthy, and most of it is taking place directly outside the office of the building staff.
Somehow they remain cheerful and patient in the midst of the endless cacophony, dealing with all the complaints with astounding forbearance. On the way in, I passed my rose to the staff members there, along with Jonah Wynn’s card, in the hope that it brightens their time in that office.
Now, whenever I go to the Common Roots farm, I will think of Jonah Wynn and her welcome. I will look over at the hospital and think of the families there who could perhaps use some kindness.
Thank you, lovely young gentleman, for this gift. And thank you Jonah Wynn’s mother, for creating kindness where you could have only seen sorrow.
And thank you Jonah Wynn, for living, for the few short moments you needed to touch us with kindness. We heard you.
    Sincerely,
    Jasmine and Rita Starnino

When I went to pass along some money for the good deed she did for me she refused to accept payment and told me it was an Act of Kindness in memory of Jonah Wynn. I will certainly pass along the Act of Kindness Card and look forward to paying the kindness forward. Thank you again Angela and Dwayne!

October 14, 2012 – My daughter Rion and I completed an act of kindness one morning in early October and left behind one of Jonah Wynn’s Act of Kindness cards. The recipients were a beautiful family out enjoying their breakfast and although they looked like any other family out for a nice meal together we share the same pain. They too lost their precious baby and we will forever share this connection.
Today Rion and I, along with our family, took part in the “Halifax Walk to Remember” and took the steps that Jonah Wynn never had a chance to take. There my daughter and I saw this special family and they shared a very touching story with us. Susan and Paul received Jonah’s card and were inspired to also do acts of kindness for others in memory of their son, Owen. There are no words to explain how touched I was when hearing their story. When starting this website my dream was to help keep Jonah’s memory alive and to do this I wanted to generate kindness for others just as I am sure Jonah Wynn would have done if she had the chance. What this family did was beyond touching and left me with a feeling that Jonah and Owen are leaving big footprints all around us. Please take the time to follow them @forowen on both Twitter and Facebook. Thank you Susan and Paul – I will never forget your kindness.

October 11, 2012 – I received one of Jonah Wynn’s Act of Kindness Cards and wanted to “pay it forward” as well. I was downtown Halifax going out to lunch with my sister and two people were sitting on the side of the road asking for spare change. It would have been easy for me to keep on walking but I took the extra second to help them out and passed on the kindness. They smiled and thanked me for my generosity and this simple act left my sister and I feeling good about the kindness we shared.

September 26, 2012 – A library book for Saint Agnes Junior High was purchased in Jonah Wynn’s memory. This act of kindness was done to also honour an amazing teacher at their school, Karen Binder.

September 7, 2012 – I was out having lunch with a great friend and neighbour. We placed our orders and enjoyed a very nice meal. When I went to pay for my lunch, Betty said no, I’ll get that and then passed me the beautiful act of kindness card. What a wonderful thing you have done Tracey, in memory of Jonah Wynn. She will always be with you and never be forgotten. She is your angel now and looking over you. When good things happen to you, always know that Jonah Wynn was there to help make it so. When you are going through a rough time, she will be there to help you along the way. Jonah Wynn will never leave you, as you are her mother and she is the child of your heart. I’m sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. I will be doing random acts of kindness in Jonah Wynn’s name and honour. Thank you so much for being the wonderful person you are. Love, Lynn Young xoxo

August 22, 2012 – As a recipient of an act of kindness I wanted to pay it forward and chose to send my brother who always loved his 1980′s Stuffed Wrinkles Puppet with one I found on Ebay. My brother has always held a special place in my heart and does so many kind things for those around him so I felt replacing his lost childhood toy was the perfect way to pay the kindness I received forward.

August 17, 2012 – I appreciate the nostalgia of old vintage items as they bring me back to my childhood, remind me of items once found in our family home, and leave me feeling content as it stirs up old memories that I hope I never forget. So, you can imagine my surprise when I received a random act of kindness from my brother and sister-in-law and opened a “just because” gift and found an old vintage Soda Shoppe toy from the 1970′s. It instantly brought me back to remembering the fun times I shared with my siblings and even though I was having a tough day it instantly made me smile. In fact, I smiled a lot that day. I still smile every time I walk in our home as the Soda Shoppe toy is there to greet me in our entrance way and as I walk up the stairs, I look up and smile, knowing I am truly blessed.

July 31, 2012 – A loan was made at www.kiva.org in Jonah Wynn’s memory. The money went to a 34 year old woman, Jesselyn, who lives in the Philippines. She is married with 4 children. Jesselyn is providing motorcycle services with her husband as the driver. She has had this business for 5 years. She requested a loan to buy tools & pay for the gasoline for the services. In the future, Jesselyn hopes to improve her services for the education of her children. To view visit: http://www.kiva.org/lend/456508
